XFER - A RAM Bank File Transfer Program for NEC PC-8201A/8300 Computers XFER.BA is an ingenious little program designed to transfer files between RAM Banks in either the NEC PC-8201A or PC-8300 computers. Although you may not think it's very user-friendly, you will find it is very easy to use! When transferring files between Banks, think in terms of a SOURCE Bank (where the file to be transferred is presently located) and a DESTINATION Bank (the Bank to which you want to transfer a file). Instructions: 1) Download XFER.BA into the Destination RAM Bank. 2) Move the wide-bar cursor over "XFER.BA" and press ENTER. (The screen will go blank for about 5 seconds. Then, a blinking block cursor will appear in the upper left corner.) 3) Type the number of the Source Bank (1, 2, or 3). 4) The name of the first file in the Source Bank will appear on the screen. If this is the name of the file you want to transfer, press ENTER. If it's not, press any key to see another filename. Keep doing so until the filename you want appears; then press ENTER. Once you've pressed ENTER, the file you've selected will be copied to the Destination Bank, and you will be prompted with the "Transfer more?" question. Hitting "Y" allows you to select more files, hitting "N" takes you back to the main menu. A beep signals the occurrence of an error. There are five known reasons for an error to occur. Unfortunately, XFER.BA does not have space to identify error type. You must figure it out from the following possibilities. An error will occur if: 1) you type the number of the Destination Bank (instead of the Source Bank, see #1 above); 2) you cycle through the entire list of filenames without choosing one to transfer; 3) you choose a filename already located in the Destination Bank; 4) the Destination Bank has a full directory; 5) there is not enough memory in the Destination Bank to transfer the desired file. XFER.BA was originally written by William Naoki Kumai. XFER 2.0 updates, with on-screen prompts and the continue capability was performed by Gary Weber.
