These codes, if they involve some ASCII characters less than 32 (for example, chr$(27), the ESC character), will not be sent to the printer when you use the key combination. Various files in Lib 2 suggest that the key (Save to:), followed by LPT:, =will= pass these characters -- but you lose the ability, in the T200, to set margins and, in the M100, to specify a 'Width:' for right-margin control. Here's the work-around that some printers will accept:] =+=+=+=+=+= Fm: Jeremy Nichols The trick (according to the files) is using the "save to LPT:" command rather than the PRINT or SHIFT-PRINT command; then the embedded commands will work. Going back to read the Diconix manual, I discovered a paragraph that said, "...some software uses the ESC code for other functions ... in that case use the "cents" sign (ASCII 155)." On the T200 display ASCII 155 is GRPH-k and displays as a left-arrow. I tried it and it works with the printer. Even better, it works with SHIFT-PRINT! So now I can have normal print formatting _and_ the embedded print strings. I have one puzzle yet to solve: the PRINT command alone (print the screen contents, I mean) puts the printer in condensed mode. The Diconix manual says the printer will do this in response to an SI code (Shift In) which is CTRL-O, ASCII 15. Don't know why that happens for PRINT and not for SHIFT-PRINT. =+=+=+=+=+= Fm: Tony Anderson To: Jeremy Nichols The left-pointing triangle at the end of lines on the LCD screen, which is used to represent a carriage return, is ascii character 143. When this gets sent to the printer, the 8th bit is stripped off the character, leaving it as CHR$(15), which puts many printers that use the Epson-compatible command set into compressed mode. Solutions: Either 1) don't do that!, or 2) set the printer to receive the 8th bit all the time. On some printers, setting it for the IBM character set as defaults eliminates the problem; on some, setting the printer to Elite mode will keep it from going into compressed when receiving the CHR$(15). I haven't used the Diconix printer, or seen the manual, so it would be interesting to find out which solution works. =+=+=+=+=+= Starting message#: 187342 Starting date: 04-Sep-89 22:03:24 Participants: Jeremy Nichols 73527,2164 Tony Anderson 76703,4062
