TXTFMT.THD --- Copyright 1987 by Phil Wheeler An original compilation of Compuserve Model 100 Forum messages for use by Forum members only. TXTFMT (DL2) is a 100/102 machine language text processor which, like DSKMGR, takes over the screen and is somewhat incompatible with the PG Designs 0MENU program. This set of messages discusses the TXTFMT.PGD patch file -- and provides further info from a user on its use. Message range: 159876 to 160050 Dates: 11/7/87 to 11/9/87 Sb: #TXTFMT VS. PG MENU Fm: Lee Levitt 70526,111 To: Phil Wheeler Paul Stork suggested that I ask you this question: I use PG's ram chip and its menu program. I recently installed Paul Stork's TXTFMT in one of the RAM banks. When I put the cursor over this machine-language program's name in the menu, I get a hybrid screen--most of the screen is from TXTFMT, but laid down on top of it are the F-key definitions from the PG menu. The system freezes at that point; the only way I can get out is by pressing the RESET button. If, before accessing TXTFMT, I press F8--which gets me out of the PG menu and back to the standard Model-100 menu--TXTFMT starts and runs properly. This is inconvenient, obviously. Thank you for any help you can give. --Sincerely, Lee Levitt Sb: #159876-TXTFMT VS. PG MENU Fm: Phil Wheeler 71266,125 To: Lee Levitt 70526,111 Look for TXTFMT.PGD (DL2). Hope that's what I called it! Fm: Lee Levitt 70526,111 To: Phil Wheeler 71266,125 I brought down your patch for TXTFMT, and it seems to be working fine. Thank you. Paul Stork did not know your patch repaired ENTRY to TXTFMT from the PG menu-he thought it only fixed RETURN to the PG menu. I'll tell him. I should have realized he was confused, since I had the problem at the very outset. One thing of academic interest to me: Your patch pgm loads TXTFMT. But if, once it has been run, you execute (as you instructed) a SAVEM, the 7-byte driver gets saved, rather than the modified TXTFMT. Why is that--what keeps the entire TXTFMT from being saved? I assumed, by the way, that the only way to save TXT-PG.CO to cassette was to load it from the menu, then save it to cassette; if had tried to save it to cassette right after running your patch, I would have saved only the driver. Is that right? Anyway, thanks again. --Lee Fm: Phil Wheeler 71266,125 To: Lee Levitt 70526,111 Frankly, I did not remember how I did that -- since I do not use TXTFMT (did the patch for another user like yourself). When you have the 7 byte program on the menu, and you are able to run TXTFMT successfully from it, you can save the entire program to menu by going to Basic and doing 'SAVEM"TXTFMT",XXXXX,YYYYY,ZZZZZ' where XXXXX is the top address (should be same as HIMEM at the time), YYYYY is 62960 (I think you need to save all up to MAXRAM) and ZZZZZ (as I recall) is the same as XXXXX. Then you can save that menu program to Cassette. Fm: RANDY HESS 73267,552 To: Lee Levitt 70526,111 I'm the "other user" Phil referred to. All Phils mods to TXTFMT work perfectly but it's important to get the sequence of mods and saves correct. If you decide to keep TXTFMT (and I think it's a tremendous value; use it all the time!) then Paul will send you a manual and CONFIG.BA which loads TXTFMT with YOUR printer codes. Here's the seq: 1) Load TXTFMT 2) Run CONFIG.BA 3) Run TXT-PG 4) SAVEM(or CSAVEM)"TXT-PG",60675,MAXRAM,60675 (This assumes of course that you're running TXTFMT from 60700 to MAXRAM) Phil's prog adds 25 bytes from 60675-60700. 5) You can save a 7 byte loader but be sure you use 60675 NOT 60700!
