If you have Ultimate ROM II (aka UR-II and UR-2), and a printer that needs linefeeds added to the caarriage returns, this file tells how (and HOW NOT!) to get those linefeeds. I have the Ultimate Rom II chip in my 100 and need assistance with one of their wonderful (grin) programs: The TB-RPT program doesn't support sending a linefeed signal [CHR$(10)] to the printer. The T-Base book that came with the software says to change a line in the Basic program. The book was designed for the cassette-based version of the program. The chip-based version cannot be selected for edit or loaded from Basic for editing. Breaking into the program during execution rewards me with program lines followed by the "@" symbol and changing them has no effect. Has anyone out there ever hit this problem and licked it? I generally don't have the time in my job (USN Instructor) to print my report to a RAM:file and then dump it to the printer with T-Word which does support the linefeed. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated - I'm asking you-all first because it's early morning and Travelling Software will be closed by the time I roll outta bed today. (I also doubt a quick reply... But, having never used them...) Thanks, Mucho Carl Cascaddan Fm: Tony Anderson 76703,4062 To: CARL CASCADDAN 76672,544 Have you tried installing Phil Wheeler's LFUTL program in the computer? It installs a short ML routine and routes printer output through the routine automatically. Everytime it sees a CR, it adds a LF. Not sure if it will work with the UR-2, but it might. See LFUTL.PW1, LFUTL.DES and LFUTL.INF in DL7. Fm: Phil Wheeler 71266,125 To: Tony Anderson 76703,4062 UR-2 (esp. T-Base or Idea!) + LFUTL = cold start! (documented in UR2TIP.002 in DL4). UR-2 elements zap all f-key dfns at exit, a really dumb thing to do. That problem was the genisis of the LF adding routine that is in UTLTY*.BA (DL7). This concept was devised by Jim Irwin and provided to solve the incompatibility. It uses a menu slot, rathere than an F-key definition. the UTLTY programs let yo toggle FL by hitting F7 while in the program. Fm: Phil Wheeler 71266,125 To: CARL CASCADDAN 76672,544 LFUTL should not be used with UR-2 (see UR2TIP.001, DL4, for explanation). But -- get the program UTLTY3.BA (DL7). It does a few other things, too -but includes a linefeed routine which is comapatible with T-Base. If you want even more goodies, try UTLTY1 or UTLTY2. Get UTLTY.DOC for short usage info. If T-Base incorporates its own print routine, the LF will still not get added. But if it does not bypass the RST 7 print hook, then the LF will get added. In any case, it is safe to try UTLTY -- but not LFUTL (which will give a certain cold start AFTER leaviang either Idea! or T-Base). Fm: Tony Anderson 76703,4062 To: Phil Wheeler 71266,125 Ah! Thanks. What would we do without your fount of information? Get lots more cold starts, I imagine. Maybe we need to put that in a file that is easier to identify (UTLTY could be ANYTHING!) like UR2LF or something, and point to the right programs. (hint hint) Fm: CARL CASCADDAN 76672,544 To: Phil Wheeler 71266,125 Thanks mucho, Phil... UTLTY1.ba does the trick and is a great assist. Once again I know why I pay my CIS bill: access to the answer-man! May you have a good one. TODAY! Fm: Neil Smith 76257,3227 To: CARL CASCADDAN 76672,544 Carl - UTLTY1.BA may still be best for you since it works on all programs, but you probably should know that LFs (and anything else the manuals say you can change) are changeable in the CONFIG.DO file. (At least in the last UR-II I worked with.) It's covered under "Modifying the Programs" in the little Quick Reference Guide. Fm: Phil Wheeler 71266,125 To: Neil Smith 76257,3227 By golly -- that DOES make sense, Neil! Problem is, that's covered in the little "pamphlet" that came with the chip, not in the T-Base manual. Wonder where that thing got to? Fm: Phil Wheeler 71266,125 To: CARL CASCADDAN 76672,544 Carl, Neil is right! The info on how to do that is in the small "pamphlet" which came with UR-2 (I think; can't find mine!).
