Bombproofing for DIRACC ----------------------- One of the hazards of using DIRACC (DL1) is that you can get into TELCOM with it unloaded, without knowing it, and get unpredictable results when you try to access TEXT or BASIC via F6 or F7 while in TELCOM. Another pitfall is that the Basic definition of F6 installed with DIRACC may have been changed by another program -- not allowing you to get back to Term from Basic. The following approach to running DIRACC should avoid these problems. 1) Install DIRACC per one of the programs (e.g., with my loader versions DIRACC.PW*). 2) Install the following Basic program on your menu: 0 '"RUNDAC.BA" - DIRACC Telcom Access 1 IF (PEEK(HIMEM)=225 AND PEEK(63587)=72) THEN CALL 20806 ELSE BEEP:MENU This tests to see if the first byte of DIRACC is where it should be and checks the 10th byte in the Basic Key 6 definition area, to make sure it has not been changed from "H", the value loaded in when DIRACC was installed. Note that the spaces in this program are for clarity and can be removed. 3) Now when you go into TELCOM, do it by running RUNDAC.BA. If you get into TELCOM, the tests have been passed; othewise DIRACC is not present and/or the Basic F6 key definition is faulty -- and you will end up back at the Model 100 main menu. This is pretty bombproof, barring some corruption of upper parts of DIRACC. Phil Wheeler [71266,125]
