Ever get that dejavu feeling when you were running a program or playing a game that used the RND(1) function? The method normally used to add an element of unpredictability involves a variation of the following simple program: 10 R=VAL(RIGHT$(TIME$,2)) 20 FOR X=1 TO R 30 DUMMY=RND(1) 40 NEXT What this does is advance the RND function in the series number of times. But, the sequence generated is ALWAYS the same series of numbers. To alleviate the problem it is necessary to re-seed the initial starting number to create a NEW series of pseudo-random numbers. This can be done using the POKE function. The random numbers for the M100 are stored in locations 64634 to 64640. For the Model 200 they are at 63277 to 63283. To re-seed these locations use the following one-liners: For the M100: POKE 64634,PEEK(63791) FOR THE 200: POKE 63277,PEEK(61983) By re-seeding the first address you will get 82 different series on the M100 and 97 on the 200. It also has the advantage of speeding up your program because there will no longer be a time lag while the program loops through the DUMMY routine.
