The BA program resides in the 100's RAM and is used to call CO, BA, DO files from banked RAM, using calls to the DataPac by VARPTR. My program works fine, but I hate the menu display. I thought about emulating the Model 100 menu, but that can be confusing for the user. I'm looking for a truly different menu style _ just for the sake of variety. I have this idea in which a list would pop up at the push of an F key, and then you would select an item in the list by placing the widebar cursor over it, hit ENTER and the CO or BA program would be called from the Node Datapac. I have no trouble creating the pop-up lists, but I'm having writing code to get the item under the widebar cursor to be called from the PAC. I have looked through the libraries for hints on cursor control ( if that's the right term) but haven't found just what I want. - 0 - Fm: Paul Globman To: Carmen Paone Carmen - it seems that you are just doing what the Datapac ROM does, except you want to do it from BASIC and use ROM calls. What's wrong with just using the Node ROM menu? You cursor select the DO, BA or CO program and press enter. How will your program differ from the ROM menu? If the difference is quite minor, then why duplicate ROM program in basic? - 0 - Fm: Carmen Paone To: Paul Globman Right, Paul, at first there seems to be uneeded duplication. However, my main purpose for using the BA program is to call CO prgrams from banked RAM with the following code: 0 Call 63013,8 1 H$="hex.co" 2 CALL63013,13,VARPTR(H$) 3 CALL63013,23,VARPTR(H$) 4 CLEAR256,61997:LOADM"HEX": KILL"HEX.CO":CALL61997 In this way, I can clear space for the CO programs and then run them right from the DATAPAC rather than copying them to main RAM, and then clearing space for them. Of course, caling BA programs from banked ram is no problem with the Call 63013,22, VARPTR format. I'm sure this too seems like wated effort to you, but I have been toying with the VARPTR concept and am trying to use it in different ways. - 0 - Fm: Tony Anderson To: Carmen Paone The program ROMENU.SHL in Lib. 8, shows how to move the cursor around a menu-like screen, and use the cursor position to do something else. You need only couple that with the program that reads the Node directory, put the directory names into an array, "page" the menu display, and do the Node CALLs to load and run the program - if that's the approach you want to follow. A nice side-benefit of this approach is that when the .CO program ends, it can return you to the menu shell program again. I used that technique in RUNXCM in Lib. 10, to run James Yi's Xmodem TELCOM module from the Node, and jump back into TELCOM. I named the module "XMO.CO" and store it in the Node. Here's an example: 10 CALL61162,8 11 S$="XMO.CO" 12 CALL61162,13,VARPTR(S$) 13 CALL61162,23,VARPTR(S$) 20 CLEAR256,56386:LOADM"xmo":KILL"XMO.CO":CALL56386 100 CLEAR256,MAXRAM 110 CALL25454 Note that it clears the XMO.CO program out of HIMEM before it jumps back to TELCOM, too. This is also specific to the 200 with Power-Disk resident. - 0 - Fm: Carmen Paone To: Tony Anderson The ROM shell program is one I missed in my search of the libraries. I download it and give it a close look. I assume your code in the message was for the 200. Is the call listed at the bottom for Telcom, or what? - 0 - Fm: Tony Anderson To: Carmen Paone Yes - that CALL jumps to TELCOM, and is for the 200 only. - 0 - Fm: Paul Globman To: Carmen Paone Assuming you know the HIMEM address to clear, you can... 0 Call 63013,8 1 CLEAR256,61997 2 H$="hex.co" 3 CALL63013,22,VARPTR(H$) This is the same as a RUNM H$ and you don't have to COPY/LOADM/KILL the program as a RAM file. The "22" command works for CO files as well as BA programs but you must clear HIMEM first. Now once you have this little basic "loader" you can run it directly from the Node ROM menu, and save yourself the hassle of writing a BASIC _menu_ program. BTW, I don't consider the effort wasted if you gain knowledge in the process. The opening of files cross bank (in the T200) is done in much the same way, when using XBASIC or XOS-C. - 0 - Starting message #: 24176 Starting date: 14-Apr-90 07:52:38 Participants: Carmen Paone 72677,42 Paul Globman 72227,1661 Tony Anderson 76703,4062
