RENAME.CO CDOS does not permit renaming disks and folders. Perhaps the amount of memory needed to implement that function was thought to be more than it was worth. However, if you're like me, you've changed you mind on what to name a disk or folder more than once (and regreted it!) RENAME.CO is a quick and easy one-step program to rename disks and folders. To create RENAME.CO, cut these instructions and load the program code below into Basic. Removing CDOS isn't required. Run the program. If all goes well, you'll receive the "Finished" message and RENAME.CO will be in the RAM file directory. A data error will produce an error message. To use RENAME.CO, place the disk to be renamed into the drive and bring up the disk directory with F1. Open the folder to be renamed (or leave it at the top level to rename the disk) and return to the RAM directory with F1. Don't skip those steps....they are necessary to set the data bytes which point to the clusters containing the folder directory and its parent directory. Run RENAME.CO from the RAM file menu or from Basic. (Don't remove CDOS!) The name of the current folder (or disk) will be displayed. If this isn't the right one, press Enter or Shift/Break on the prompt to abort. Otherwise, type the new name and press Enter. If all goes well, the folder and its entry in the parent directory will be renamed and you'll be returned to the RAM file menu. A disk error produces an error message. Press any key to return to the menu. Note: RENAME.CO uses the memory between its end address and the beginning of CDOS for data storage. RENAME.CO is (C) 1985 by Tim Ekdom, all rights reserved.
