Here's how it was done, using POWR-DOS:] - 0 - Fm: Larry Sloan To: Wilson Van Alst Thanks for the idea, which worked as follows: I have POWR-D installed in bank 3, which means MAXRAM there is set to 58960. You are right about ROMULUS being lower in memory than POWR-D. The version of ROMULUS I use has a top adrs of 44328 and end adrs of 56000. Anyway, in BASIC I executed the following commands: CLEAR99,44328 LOADM":CHESS" (which is what I call ROMULUS on disk) LFILES OFF (which disables POWR-D and changes MAXRAM back to 61104) CALL44328 (which runs ROMULUS) Again, I really appreciate your idea. - 0 - Fm: Wilson Van Alst To: Larry Sloan Glad you've put the scheme to work. As I mentioned, I'm a little fuzzy on the procedure I recommended last time -- but you've filled in the gaps. Since you've got a fresh recollection, what were the precise steps used to put Romulus on disk in the first place (assuming your version of the program came on cassette, as mine did)? - 0 - Fm: Larry Sloan To: Wilson Van Alst Well, to put ROMULUS on disk involves the same fact that the DOS and ROMULUS need to occupy different areas of RAM. If you use TS-DOS, then in a clear bank with only DOS200.CO present, turn DOS-ON (F-5); go to MENU; kill DOS200.CO; go to BASIC; type CLEAR99,44328 (or CLEAR99,42312 if loading CHESSX.CO); at the OK prompt type CLOADM"CHESS",44328,56000,44328 (or CLOADM"CHESSX",42312 56000,42312 if loading CHESSX.CO); at the OK prompt type SAVEM"0:CHESS",44328, 56000,44328 (or SAVEM"0:CHESSX",42313,56000,42312); then you're in business. Obviously, you can't run CHESS.CO after you load from cassette and before you save to disk or you'll corrupt the DOS. With POWR-D installed and in a clear bank with no files, it's essentially the same procedure, except easier because you don't have to kill the DOS200.CO and everything is done in BASIC command mode. Type CLEAR99,44328; at the OK type CLOADM"CHESS",44328,56000,44328; at the OK type SAVEM":CHESS",44328,56000, 44328; and you're set. - 0 - Starting message #: 24311 Starting date: 17-Apr-90 23:01:24 Participants: Larry Sloan 76616,3015 Wilson Van Alst 76576,2735
